The Giza Pyramids Complex, constructed during the Old Kingdom (2686–2134 BC), remains one of Egypt’s greatest monuments. It showcases the timeless treasures of the civilization, including the pyramids, the Sphinx, and more.
The Great Pyramid
The Great Pyramid of Pharaoh Khufu (2609–2584 BC), designed by the architect Hemiunu, is the tallest of Egypt’s pyramids at 147 meters. Built with 2.3 million limestone blocks weighing a combined six million tons, it houses the King’s Chamber, Queen’s Chamber, and Grand Gallery.
The Great Sphinx
The Great Sphinx, also called “Horus of the Horizon,” was built in Pharaoh Khafre’s image (2558–2532 BC) with the body of a lion. Between its paws lies the famous Dream Stele of Thutmose IV, dating to 1401 BC.
