Details

In the morning, we will collect you to begin your Coptic Cairo day tour, accompanied by one of our expert guides who will introduce you to some of the most captivating Coptic sites throughout Old Cairo. The remarkable locations you will explore include:

The Hanging Church

The Hanging Church, also known as the Suspended Church, derives its name from its location above the southern gate of the Roman Fortress. It is undoubtedly a distinctive church in Old Cairo, notable for its roof designed in the shape of Noah's Ark. From the 7th to the 13th century, it served as the residence of the Coptic Patriarch.

Ben Ezra Synagogue

The Ben Ezra Synagogue dates back to the 9th century and was established within the structure of a 4th-century Christian church. It is believed to be the location where the prophet Jeremiah gathered the Jewish people following the destruction of the Jerusalem Temple by Nebuchadnezzar in the 6th century. The synagogue was restored by Abraham Ben Ezra in the 12th century and has since served as a key site for understanding the secrets and history of the North African Jewish community from the 11th to the 13th centuries.

Lunch Time

Next, we will take you to a fantastic local restaurant for lunch, after which you will proceed with the remainder of your day tour to:

Abu Serga Church

Abu Serga Church is believed to have been constructed on the site where the Holy Family—Mary, Jesus Christ, and Joseph—rested after completing their journey into Egypt. The church holds significant historical importance and has been the location for the consecration of many patriarchs of the Coptic Church.

Virgin Mary Church

The Virgin Mary Church is a Coptic church situated in Haret Zuweila and is considered the oldest in the area. It is believed to have been constructed in the 10th century, although some inscriptions indicate it dates back to the 12th century during the consecration of the New Cairo Bishop. This church served as the seat of the Orthodox Pope of Alexandria from 1400 AD to 1520 AD.

At the end of your tour, we will provide private A.C transportation to return you to your hotel in Cairo or Giza, concluding your visit to Cairo’s primary Coptic landmarks.
