Abu Simbel Temples

The remarkable Abu Simbel temples were built in the 3rd century BC by Ramses the Great (1303 BC – 1213 BC) to preserve his legacy and commemorate his triumphs, including his significant victory at the Battle of Kadesh, which led to the signing of the first recorded peace treaty in history.

The temple is renowned for hosting the annual sun festival on October 22 and February, when the sun's rays illuminate the faces of Ra Horakhty, Amun, Ptah, and the Great Ramses himself. In the nearby second temple, just 100 meters away, Queen Nefertari is honored alongside the goddess Hathor, celebrating Ramses' devotion to his wife.
