The Giza pyramid complex has stood in the enigmatic western desert for the past 4000 years, making it one of the oldest monuments worldwide. The complex includes three major pyramids, six smaller pyramids, the magnificent Sphinx, known as Egypt's great guardian, and the valley temple, which was used to safeguard the heritage and legacy of the kings and queens for many generations.
The Great Pyramid, the only remaining intact structure among the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, is one of the oldest and largest constructions still standing today. Its intricate interior and immense scale have inspired numerous mysteries and fringe theories. Dating back to 2580 BC, over 4,500 years ago, it was the first of its kind and marked the beginning of a golden era in Ancient Egyptian architecture. Constructed over 20 years, the pyramid consists of approximately 2,300,000 limestone blocks, each weighing about 2.5 tons, and was built by a skilled workforce of 100,000 free laborers. It rises to a height of 147 meters (481 feet), making it the tallest man-made structure in the world for nearly 3,800 years, until the Lincoln Cathedral in England surpassed it in 1311.
The oldest statue in history depicts a mythical creature known as the Sphinx, featuring the body of a lion and the head of a man, likely representing King Khafre as a symbol of strength and wisdom. It is called Abu Al-Hawl, meaning The Father of Terror in Arabic. The statue stands 73 meters (240 feet) long and 19 meters (66 feet) high, carved from a single limestone rock.
The site where the mummification process was carried out. The valley was established during Egypt's Old Kingdom period (2686–2134 BC). It is one of the best-preserved monuments of Ancient Egyptian Civilization, constructed entirely from limestone and granite, and houses remarkable diorite statues of Chephren.
The Grand Egyptian Museum serves as a magnificent gateway to the extraordinary ancient Egyptian achievements, showcasing 5,000 years of continuous innovation and rich artistic creativity. This monumental museum offers a unique opportunity to explore some of the most remarkable archaeological monuments and artifacts ever discovered, including:
The Hanging Obelisk, the statue of King Ramses II, the ten statues of King Senusert, the grand staircase, statues of Ptolemaic kings and queens, the Victory Column of King Merenptah, the magnificent Royal Regalia, and the Grand Atrium with the gift shop.

The Valley has served as the final resting place and a gateway to the afterlife for the most prominent Kings and Queens of Egypt's New Kingdom (1570-1070 BC). It is one of the world’s most significant archaeological sites and was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979. The site contains 63 tombs filled with a wide array of fascinating artifacts, decorations, and the remains of pharaohs including Ramses (I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, IX, X), Amenhotep I, Hatshepsut, and the renowned boy king Tutankhamen. Most of the tombs belong to esteemed nobles and members of the royal family. This historic location remains home to important tombs such as those of Ramses II and Tutankhamen.
Also known as Djeser-Djeseru (Holy of Holies), it is the jewel of Luxor, embodying the grandeur of the New Kingdom period (1550-1070 BC) and highlighting the vision and achievements of one of Ancient Egypt’s most successful rulers, Queen Hatshepsut. The temple was designed by Hatshepsut’s chancellor, Senenmut, in 1479 BC and took 15 years to complete. Its design follows the principles of Classical Architecture and features some of the most remarkable decorations and statues found in Egypt.
Two quartzite sandstone blocks, each standing 18 meters (60 feet) tall and weighing 720 tons, are shaped to represent Amenhotep III (1386-1350 BCE). The Colossi suffered significant damage during a major earthquake in 27 BCE but were restored in 199 CE. During the Greco-Roman period, the Colossi of Memnon gained fame due to the legend of the "Vocal Memnon," where the statues were said to produce singing sounds, which were actually caused by wind passing through the statues.
Enjoy your lunch at a restaurant in Luxor, then proceed with your journey by:
One of the largest open-air museums in the world, it was originally known as Ipet-isu, meaning "The Most Selected of Places," and also as Pr-Imn House of Amon. Dating back over 4,000 years, it is the largest man-made religious structure globally. The Karnak Temple served as the central place of worship for the entire ancient Egyptian kingdom and was dedicated to the Theban triad: the god Amun, his wife Mut, the goddess of justice and balance, and their son Khonsu, the moon god, as well as other deities such as Osiris, Montu, Ptah, and Isis.

The Catacombs are truly remarkable, being the only one of their kind in all of Egypt. This necropolis, dating back to the 2nd century AD, uniquely merges artistic elements from Hellenistic and Roman styles with ancient Egyptian Pharaonic designs in an exceptionally stunning and impressive manner. It contains numerous significant Greek and Roman artifacts and decorations across its three levels, earning it the distinction of being one of the seven wonders of the Middle Ages.
The Colossi of Memnon rises to a height of 28 meters and measures 2.7 meters in width, crafted from pure red granite. On its upper western side, there is a Greek inscription dedicated to Emperor Diocletian. This monument is renowned for being the largest monolithic column constructed outside of Rome. It is called Pompey's Pillar because, during the Middle Ages, Crusaders mistakenly believed that the remains of the famed Roman general Pompey were entombed at the very top of the pillar.
Enjoy a delightful lunch before proceeding with the remainder of your adventure.
The Qaitbay Citadel is a stunning blend of Islamic architecture and authentic Mediterranean charm. It was built in 1477 by Sultan Al-Ashraf Sayf Al-Din Qait Bay atop the site of the legendary Lighthouse of Alexandria, using stones recovered from the lighthouse. The lighthouse was once the third longest-standing wonder of the ancient world until it was destroyed by earthquakes between 956 AD and 1323 AD. The Qaitbay Citadel is well-known, with many believing it preserves the enduring spirit of the Alexandria Lighthouse and features remarkable designs characteristic of the Islamic era.
The Alexandria Library ranks among the largest and most modern libraries worldwide, serving as a tribute to the ancient Library of Alexandria. It houses the world's sixth-largest Francophone collection. This trilingual library offers books in Arabic, English, and French, and boasts the largest repository of French literature in North Africa and the Middle East. Additionally, it features remarkable art galleries and a collection of some of the rarest books globally.
