Abu Simbel Temples
The magnificent temples of Abu Simbel were built by Ramses the Great (1303 – 1213 BC) in the 13th century BC during the New Kingdom to commemorate his achievements, such as his victory in the Battle of Kadesh, which led to the signing of the first known peace treaty. The temples also celebrate the annual sun festivals on October 22 and February, honoring the ancient Egyptian gods Amun, Ra Horakhty, and Ptah.
