The most remarkable monument in Luxor is the Valley of the Kings, serving as a gateway to the afterlife. It was constructed to house the tombs of ancient rulers from the New Kingdom period (1570-1070 BC). The site includes 63 tombs, with 20 royal tombs belonging to prominent rulers such as Ramses II, Seti I, Tutankhamen, Hatshepsut, and others. These tombs contain an extensive collection of treasures, artifacts, and stunning wall decorations that illuminate the mythical beliefs of the ancient Egyptians.
The carved temple of Queen Hatshepsut, known as the Holy of Holies and constructed during her reign (1507-1458 BC), serves as the quintessential example of ancient classical architecture. It was built to honor the creator sun god Amun, to secure her divine favor, and to symbolize her enduring legacy and heritage, representing the finest example of classical Egyptian architectural design.
The two magnificent Colossi of Memnon stand at the entrance of Luxor, depicting seated statues of Amenhotep III (1386-1350 BCE) and reaching a height of 18 meters. These colossi gained great fame during the Ptolemaic period because of the unique vocal phenomenon and the numerous inscriptions carved on them.

The largest and most recent Aswan High Dam project in the historic city of Aswan was constructed in the 1960s with assistance from the Soviet government. It was designed to regulate and store the Nile’s floodwaters as well as generate electricity, marking a significant milestone for Egypt in the field of renewable energy.
The greatest construction ever undertaken in Egypt is the enormous unfinished obelisk of Queen Hatshepsut (1508-1458 BC), intended to reach the heavens, but it was broken during its construction and remains at the original site to this day.
The Philae temple is among the final structures constructed in Egypt, dating from 380-362 BC during the Ptolemaic period. It was dedicated to illustrating the myth of Osiris, the ruler of the Underworld, and served as the sanctuary of Isis, the goddess of motherhood, healing, and more. In the 1960s, it was relocated to Agilkia Island along with the Abu Simbel temples as part of a UNESCO preservation project.
