The celestial Giza is a remarkable masterpiece exemplifying the rich legacy of the magnificent 4th dynasty, constructed in 2600 BC at a distinct site in Giza with the aim of reaching the stars.
The Great Pyramid
The magnificent Great Pyramid, constructed in 2570 BC, was intended to reach the heavens and preserve a lasting legacy. Designed by the chief architect Hemiunu for Pharaoh Khufu (2609 BC - 2584 BC), it served as his eternal tomb. The pyramid was built using 2.3 million limestone blocks, each weighing approximately 2.5 tons, with the labor of around 400,000 skilled and compensated workers. It was completely covered in alabaster and stood at a height of 138.5 meters (454.4 ft), making it the tallest structure on Earth for 3,800 years and the only surviving wonder among the seven wonders of the ancient world.
The Great Sphinx
The legendary and monumental Sphinx was sculpted from a single block of limestone to embody the wisdom and strength of Pharaoh Khafre (2558–2532 BC) by merging his face with the body of a lion. The Sphinx ranks among the largest monumental statues in the world and features unique artworks, including the Dream Stele of King Thutmose IV, erected in 1401 BC.
