The Great Pyramid is the sole surviving and well-preserved wonder of the seven wonders of the ancient world. It was designed by Hemiunu, the chief architect for King Khufu (2609 BC - 2584 BC), to serve as his tomb for his journey to the afterlife. Completed in 2570 BC, the pyramid was constructed by 400,000 laborers using 3.3 million limestone blocks, totaling approximately 6 million tons. It stood as the tallest structure on Earth for more than 3,800 years, reaching a height of 138.5 meters (454.4 feet).
The Great Sphinx
King Chephren (2558–2532 BC) ensured his wise and powerful legacy endured through the ages by commissioning the Sphinx, a monumental sculpture featuring his face on the body of a lion. This iconic Egyptian monument measures 73 meters (240 ft) in length, 20 meters (66 ft) in height, and 19 meters (62 ft) in width. During the New Kingdom, the Dream Stele was added between the Sphinx’s legs in 1401 BC to commemorate his lasting heritage.
