The Valley has acted as the final resting place and a stairway to heaven for the greatest kings and queens of Egyptโ€™s New Kingdom (1570โ€“1070 BC). It is one of the most important archaeological spots in the world, as it became a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1979. It holds 63 tombs, filled with various enchanting artifacts, decorations, and the remains of pharaonic rulers like Ramses II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, IX, X, Amenhotep I, Hatshepsut, and the famous boy king Tutankhamun. A.K.A. Djeser-Djeseru (Holy of Holies), it is the beauty of Luxor. It reflects the greatness of the new kingdom (1550โ€“1070 BC) and showcases the vision and glory of one of the most successful rulers in the history of ancient Egypt, Queen Hatshepsut. It was designed by Hatshepsutโ€™s chancellor Senemut in 1479 BC and took 15 years to construct. The design of the temple is based on the concept of Classical Architecture. It holds some of the most impressive decorations and statues in all of Egypt.

Two blocks of quartzite sandstone, standing at the height of 18 m (60 ft) and weighing 720 tons each, have the shape of Amenhotep III (1386โ€“1350 BC). The Great statue got damaged due to a large earthquake in 27 BC, but it was rebuilt again in 199 AD. The Colossi of Memnon was famous during the Greco-Roman period as they were believed to be a runner of the Vocal Memnon, as the statues sang from time to time, which was nothing more than the sound of the wind passing through the statue.

One of the worldโ€™s biggest open-air museums, it was known as (Ipet-isu), which means "The Most Selected Of Places", and Pr-Imn House of Amon. It was founded more than 4000 years ago and is the largest religious man-made construction in the world. Karnak Temple was the center of the religious cult of Amun. The temple has 134 massive columns, divided into 16 rows, and it was the most selected of places in which the Goddess Mut, the Moon God Khonsu, and Amun the sun god Khonsu. The Catacombs are quite unique, as there is only one of its kind in all of Egypt. This Necropolis dates to the 2nd century AD and is a blend of ancient Egyptian, Greek, and Roman art styles. It holds three levels of rock-cut tombs, statues, and archaeological objects, making it one of the Seven Wonders of the Middle Ages.

๐Ÿ› Pompey's Pillar

The Colossi of Memnon stands at 26.85 m (88 feet) tall and 2.7 m wide, made of pure red granite. The Greek inscription on its western upper side is dedicated to Emperor Diocletian. The pillar is the largest monolithic column ever built outside of Rome. It was named Pompeyโ€™s Pillar in the Middle Ages, as Crusaders mistakenly believed that the remains of the great Roman general Pompey were inside.

Qaitbay Citadel is a beautiful mixture of Islamic architecture and Mediterranean beauty. It was constructed in 1477 AD by Sultan Al-Ashraf Sayf Al-Din Qaโ€™it Bay on the same site of the legendary Lighthouse of Alexandria, which was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World before it was destroyed. The citadel still contains stones salvaged from the ancient lighthouse, and it remains one of the most significant defensive strongholds on the Mediterranean coastline.

The Alexandria Library is one of the biggest and most advanced libraries in the world. It was built in commemoration of the ancient Library of Alexandria, which was the worldโ€™s first known universal library.
